Why am I still awake at 2 a.m. thinking about this? How do I find my purpose in life? What do I actually want from love? Why does my life feel like someone else’s? Why do I keep choosing people who aren’t right for me?

Philosophy began with questions like these. Here, we work on yours. But not merely as theory — it is aimed at your actual life, your relationships and the choices in front of you.

What it is

One-to-one conversations, online, that use my training in philosophy & counselling to address daily life issues or dilemmas revolving around your relationships, your choices, and the questions you keep coming back to. It’s philosophical counselling, with practical exercises, and goal-oriented life coaching, all rolled into one.

How it works

We start with a free 30–45 minute call. If it feels right, we book four sessions, 45–60 minutes each, online, about once a week. ₹8,000 for the four.

About me

Akshat Kapur smiling, sitting on the grass with a small white dog and a book

Hi, I’m Akshat. I’m a consulting philosopher and coach based in Bengaluru, originally from Kullu, Himachal Pradesh.

I work one-on-one with people on the questions underneath everyday problems: careers, relationships, how you feel and how you live.

The approach I take in my private practice is derived from the field of “philosophical counselling”. I have been an academic researcher in this field since 2019, and practicing professionally since 2022.

Certified consultant, National Philosophical Counseling Association (US) · ICF Coach Level 1 · NET Qualified Researcher in Philosophy.

FAQ

Is this therapy? Is it coaching?

I’m not a therapist, but I’m trained to recognise when something needs clinical care. When it does, you need a therapist or a psychiatrist, and I’ll say so. Some of the people I work with best are also seeing a therapist or psychiatrist. This works alongside that kind of care. It doesn’t replace it.

A lot of people come to me after therapy that didn’t suit them. What they usually say is that it felt too clinical, or too structured to leave room for the thoughts that didn’t fit. Here there’s room for those too, the wild ones included. You probably have them for a reason.

It isn’t coaching in the usual sense either. Coaching tends to follow a framework: start from a goal, build a plan to reach it. I’ll ask what you want too, but I’ll also ask why you want it, and sometimes the answer changes the goal. There are no targets to hit, and how much accountability you want is up to you.

Reading philosophy and applying it to your own life are different things. You can read every book on how to live and still not know what to do about the thing in front of you. Here the philosophy is aimed at your life, with someone asking you questions about it.

This is not a substitute for clinical therapy, psychiatric care or medical advice. I don’t diagnose or treat mental illness, and I may suggest other forms of support if they’d help you more.

I have a diagnosis, or I’m already in treatment. Can I still come?

Yes. Some of the people I work with best are also seeing a psychiatrist or therapist, and the two tend to work well together. Keep that care going. This sits alongside it. And if you’re not in treatment and I think you’d benefit from it, I’ll say so.

Do I need to know any philosophy?

No. You bring your life; I bring the philosophy, and only where it helps: a book I’ll recommend, a passage we read together, sometimes a research paper.

If you already love philosophy, you’ll find it put to work on something that matters to you.

What if I just need to vent?

Then that’s where we start. If what you need that day is to rant, I’ll listen for most of the hour.

You can say things here you haven’t said to anyone, and nothing gets judged.

How many sessions will I need?

Most people come during a rough patch or with specific problems. They meet more often for a while, then less, like a session a month. Six to eight sessions are typical. Results mostly show after 4–6 sessions, though it varies from person to person.

This isn’t meant to last a lifetime.

What if it’s not a fit?

That’s what the free intro call is for: 30–45 minutes, before any commitment. If it doesn’t feel right, that’s the end of it, with nothing to pay.

For what happens once you’ve paid for a package, see the Refund & Cancellation Policy.

What language are sessions in?

English or Hindi.
